My Cross to Bear

I took a renter into my house,

About two years ago.

At first, it was like he wasn’t there.

Now he’s trying to run the show.

Slowly, he began to run my life,

Living here with a make-believe name.

But about four months ago, I discovered,

His true name was Intractable Pain.

“Pain,” tells me he is never leaving.

That he’s happy and wants to stay.

Recently, his behavior changed,

Stopping the rent he used to pay.

Now, he’s more of a burden,

While leaving my house a mess.

He never helps to clean or dust,

And thinks he’s a privileged guest.
